Project: Hadrian's Wall

Hadrian's Wall was built by the Emperor Hadrian as a defensive fortification in Roman Britain. It was started in AD 122 and was more or less completed within 6 years. The Wall is made up of forts, turrets and milecastles which were manned with Roman troops. There was a milecastle built every Roman mile, and two turrets were built equally spaced on either side of the milecastle. The Wall is roughly 84 miles long, from Wallsend on the east coast to Bowness-on-Solway on the west coast.

These pictures were taken with the Samsung PL50.

Landscape: The Farne Islands

The Farnes are a group of islands off the coast of Northumberland, England. They are roughly 3 miles east of the mainland, and consist of about 20 separate islands. The islands are home to many species of bird (including puffins, guillemots, cormorants and terns), but are also frequented by atlantic grey seals (see Mammals post).
